Walk: Inns and Alehouses – Past and Present

It is said that in the late middle ages, Bury St Edmunds had an Inn or Alehouse for every day of the year; today, there are just enough to go round in a month. This tour visits the sites of some of our famous (and infamous) hostelries from times past and a few of the very interesting ones that are still in business.  It ends at the Greene King brewery with a complimentary glass of one of their fine ales.

Kimmo Pohjonen – Earth Machine Music

Kimmo Pohjonen

A unique music event featuring new commissions from one of Europe's most inventive and critically acclaimed artists collaborating with agricultural machinery performed in UK farms.

Finnish accordionist and composer Kimmo Pohjonen stands apart as one of the world's musical innovators. Dubbed the 'Hendrix of the accordion', his singular mission is to expand the capabilities, sound, performance, scope and experience of his instrument in many different settings to levels never before seen or heard. Using surround sound, live loops and effects, and a highly compelling performance style, Kimmo breathes an infectious energy into the accordion. It is this upfront, fresh and accessible approach that has won him the hearts of audiences and critics across musical genres.

Earth Machine Music sees the collaboration between Kimmo and agricultural machines working with local farm people in just four locations in the UK. The resulting performance, to take place in Hall Farm, Nowton, will feature new music inspired by various machines, sampled material these machine and local farmers 'playing' them alongside Kimmo.

"Simply amazing" - The Guardian

"Nothing can quite prepare you for the Finnish accordionist Kimmo Pohjonen. A performer whose blend of virtuosity and resolute experimentation is routinely likened to that of Jimi Hendrix or Laurie Anderson, Pohjonen is a galaxy away from squeezebox-squealing tourist torturer" - The Wire

"Responses to Kimmo Pohjonen's first album and his concerts in the UK were ecstatic. Audiences couldn't believe their ears as he wrestled techno beats, orchestral swathes and industrial grunge simultaneously from…an accordion" - Songlines

Fat Cat Comedy Club: Lucy Porter's Love-In

Comedienne Lucy Porter

Straight from her sell-out run in Edinburgh, Lucy invites you to her Love-in where we'll examine every aspect of that crazy little thing called love. Is romantic love more important than familial love, platonic love or religious love?

The ancient Greeks had many words for different types of love (eros, philia, agape, storge etc.) But then, the ancient Greeks also invented anal sex, central heating and the hula-hoop, so they clearly had plenty of time on their hands.

"It's impossible not to be charmed by Porter's mischievous comedy" - Sunday Times
